Why Using Olive Oil for Hair Growth is a Viable Course of Action

Olive Oil for Hair Growth
With there being so many different shampoos, conditioners and chemicals designed to make our hair fabulous, we ignore that in the long run, they can actually take their toll and lead to damaged hair, and eventually, hair loss. Recently a movement was started to move to more natural hair care methods, and one of the most popular trends is using olive oil for hair growth.

Needless to say, many are still on the fence about such a seemingly outlandish proposal, and so here is a look at how olive oil can benefit your hair, and how you should go about using it.

Natural Remedies for Hair Growth – Why Olive Oil is One of them

To begin with, one of the main reasons as to why people start losing hair is an over-production of the dihydrotestosterone (DHT) hormone which causes the hair follicle shaft to shrink in size and become unable to stimulate hair growth. However, it would seem as if the regular application of olive oil to the scalp helps to reduce the production of DHT, which in turn increases the chances of growing your hair back.

Like pretty much any other oil, olive-based extracts contain plenty of fatty acids which are perfect for moisturizing the scalp. In turn, this will help to preserve a healthy scalp, and in the end, that equates to healthier, stronger and livelier hair.

Once again, like certain other oils, olive oil has powerful antifungal and antibacterial properties, and that’s extremely important in the prevention of scalp infections, which are by the way, one of the leading causes of hair loss.

Finally, as if that wasn't enough already, regularly applying olive oil to your hair will make it soft as an angel’s touch and shine brighter than a thousand suns (perhaps that’s an exaggeration, but you get the point). As a matter of fact, many hair products use olive oil for this specific reason, and chances are that the shampoo and conditioners in your bathroom use it as one of their main ingredients.

How to Increase Hair Growth Naturally Using Olive Oil

Now that we've established while the use of olive oil for hair loss is a valid option, let us discuss the ever-so important topic of how you should be using it. To start things off, if you want to use it in order to improve your hair health and stimulate its growth, then start by pouring a small amount of it in your palms and then gently massage away at your scalp, slowly going down until the end of your hair strands. Let it sit for thirty minutes, then wrap your head in a damp towel, giving it enough time to penetrate the scalp and deep under your skin. Remove it after another half-hour and then wash it off as you would do with a shampoo.

If you want to use it more for its beauty-related properties, then you can actually use olive oil to make your own conditioner. Simply take a cup of it, mix it with an egg yolk, add a few lemon juice drops, then stir it until it makes for a homogenous mixture. Coat your entire head in it, leave it on for around fifteen minutes, and then rinse it off for soft and sparkling hair unlike any you have ever seen before.

If you are set on using olive oil for hair growth, then I would recommend you look for it in its most natural form. There are plenty of virgin olive oil products made specifically for hair growth, so finding one shouldn't pose any problems.
In the end, taking care of your hair naturally is not only more effective (remember, the chemicals in hair care products are actually what ruins you in the long run), but it is also cheaper, not to mention you feel much more accomplished when making your own home remedies. It is definitely a choice I would recommend to anyone who wants to repair or prevent hair problems.
