The 5 Things you can Never do for Weight Loss

Fighting the battle against your weight can be very demanding, depending of course on the approach you take. Some people are okay with going on a light diet and waiting for their results, while others start pushing themselves to the limit in hopes of making quick changes to their lives.

Regardless of which end of the spectrum you fall on, chances are that because you spent so much time looking into what you have to do to lose weight, you have forgotten the fact that there are also certain things you need to avoid. And so, to give you a hand, here’s a look at the 5 things you can never do for weight loss.

Near-Starvation Diets

You may be drawn to them through the appeal of fast results, but very low-calorie diets which make you feel as if you are starving are far from being the answer you are looking for. A weight loss through such a method would also cause you to lose muscle mass and water, not to mention that you’ll be suffering throughout the whole thing.

The worst part is that in the end (provided you make it that far), you are going to regain all your weight back once you go back to your regular routine. As a matter of fact, you could even gain more weight for your body has a way of overcompensating for everything.

Chemical Supplements and Pharmaceuticals with Outlandish Promises

I know it is very tempting to try a product which claims it can effortlessly help you to lose weight, but the important thing to understand is that in reality, there is no such item. Most products which make these claims omit to tell you about all the different side effects which come along with the weight loss, they do not provide proof that it works ,not to mention they do not give you a plan of action once you are off the pill. In the end, placing all your hope in such products won’t do you any favors.

Detoxification Plans and Purging

Chances are that in recent years you have come across various cleansing, detoxification and purging systems designed to “rid your body of all impurities”. Though some of them do work, you need to understand that they are not actually designed for weight loss, but rather for the maintenance of a healthy body. Going through with such procedures too often will put a great amount of stress on your body, causing it to develop problems such as electrolyte imbalance and dehydration.

The case is even worse for purging diets (ones where you force yourself to vomit, chew food and spit it out, take loads of laxatives) as their extreme methods can end up drastically hurting your body for it will put it through processes it wasn’t meant to handle, such as regurgitating food (it is meant to be an emergency procedure). In other words, purging and detoxing won’t help you slim down, but rather, if abusive, they will send you to the hospital. Once again it should be mentioned that there are some detox programs that are worth it, just not for the purpose of weight loss.

Obsessive Dedication

Some people believe that extreme exercise is the best way of losing weight fast and building a rocking body, but the truth is that unless it’s done in a TV show where contestants are taken care of in every way, it will cause problems.

First off, the extreme stress on your body will make you much more likely to injure yourself while exercising. In addition, if you become obsessed with exercising and do it whenever you can, soon enough you are going to reach a plateau that will make it very hard for you to progress further, unless you change your plans up. It is recommended that you exercise somewhere around four to five days per week for thirty minutes to an hour per day.

The Use of Drugs

Though it may sound silly, the truth is that there are plenty of rumors going around about how various drugs, both legal and illegal, can help you to lose weight. For instance, it is well known amongst many people that various prescription drugs, such as anti-depressants, are basically amphetamines and can make you more energetic while killing your appetite.

I’m sorry to say it, but the potential risks associated with taking drugs which can actually help you to lose weight (unless they were specifically designed for it) is simply not worth it. Many of them have a very high potential for addiction, and if that happens, rest assured that your weight will become the least of your worries.

All in all, remember that if you want to lose weight permanently, you’ll have to arm yourself with patience and dedication to your program. Remain reasonable in your approach (don’t do anything extreme), and perhaps most importantly, make sure that you have an exit strategy, i.e. a plan for how to live once you get off the weight loss diet.
