Making an Olive Oil Face Mask – Why and How

There are countless skin problems we are prone to developing out there, and though the problem itself hasn’t exactly disappeared, our ways of fighting back have drastically expanded. There are plenty of treatments which can be used against large numbers of disorders, and one of those treatments is olive oil face mask.

Now, of course, these masks can be made from a number of different oils, but the olive one has some very interesting properties to consider. As such, what follows is a brief look as to why the olive oil mask is worth it and how you can easily make one for yourself at home.

Why Olive Oil?

To begin with, chances are that you already have some virgin olive oil sitting in your cupboards at home. Indeed, making the face mask is far from being complex in terms of the ingredients you need; they are all inexpensive and can be easily found in any number of common stores, and it will only take you a few minutes to make it within the comfort of your own home.

Before discussing the mask itself though, it needs to be explained what makes olive oil so special. To begin with, it is completely stuffed with antioxidants, iron, as well as vitamins C, D, and E. All of these ingredients help to protect skin, repair it, keep it healthy, smooth and moisturized.

The fatty acids found in the oil also play their part, and on the whole combination of ingredients helps to promote blood flow to your skin cells and the secretion of the substances responsible for its upkeep. The oil is absorbed rather quickly and easily by your face, and you can even administer localized treatments to yourself rather than carpet-bombing your body.

What follows now is a quick look at a popular olive oil face mask recipe, one which also combines it with lemon for the latter’s ability to help sanitize your skin, kill off any bacteria, thus ridding you of any impurities. In addition, oatmeal is used in it to combat skin blotches and such. Egg whites are also part of the whole thing to help give the mixture that skin tightening effect.

To begin with, you will need:

  • One teaspoon of olive oil, preferably extra virgin.
  • About half a teaspoon of freshly-squeezed lemon juice.
  • One egg white.
  • One third to half a cup of cooked instant oatmeal, and make sure to cool it down before using it of course.

Once you have all the ingredients ready, put all of the ingredients in a bowl and simply keep on mixing them until it creates a mixture that is as homogeneous as possible.

Once ready, apply the mixture on your face and neck, making sure to massage it in a bit so that your skin can absorb as much of it as possible.

Leave the mask for about thirty minutes, and then rinse it off with lukewarm water. You can top it all off by using a facial moisturizer once all is said and done. And that’s all there is to making your very own olive oil face mask!
